My Friend Sent Me a Photo

We work hard to convey to our customers what to expect from the flowers they have ordered so complaints are rare for us. When they do arise the conversation usually starts with the phrase “My friend has sent me a photo of what they received”.

In a digital age, we expect everyone to see a photo from their recipient thanking them for the beautiful thoughtful gift they sent. While the recipient doesn’t mean ill, they are often not thinking about how to best frame and light the photo to convey what was received. When we add photos to our site they are perfectly lit, at just the right angle and the flowers are already halfway through their life(in full bloom).

Seeing these poor photos of our work can be frustrating for us. At this time we do not take a photo of every arrangement that goes out. If we did offer this service we would have to increase our staff size and therefore increase our prices. When these complaints arise the first thing we ask for is to see the picture they received. More often than not the picture has been taken at a blunt angle rather than overhead with poor lighting. I will never forget the time someone sent their friend a picture of the back of a one-sided design. We got an angry call stating that we had only sent greenery. After we asked them to perhaps ask for a picture of the front we sadly did not receive an apology for the yelling.

Below are a few diagrams and photo references to help illustrate my point.

This is for some reason the most common angle we have sent to us....it's just not a fair representation of the overall design.

This is the same arrangement at a different angle. What a difference!

Another consideration is bloom age. We aim to send your flowers out in the freshest state possible. Therefore, many of the blooms will not have opened and the arrangement may not look as full as the website depicts. Below is an example.

Most local florists only want to make you happy. We hope this blog grants my fellow florists a little grace when you see a picture of the flowers sent on your behalf!
